“Fall is recruitment time”
It’s that time of year again. The time of year when we put out “Help Wanted” ads for: Wednesday School teachers, Gathering Table helpers, singers for choir, Confirmation small-group leaders, etc.
Why do we ask for help? The simple answer is because we need it!
The real answer is because Jesus wants us to make disciples (Mt. 28:19).
So, WE NEED YOU!!! (picture me dressed as an old testament prophet pointing my finger at you)
These are important programs, essential to the well-being of our children and families and essential to the health of our congregation. And these programs won't function without your support. How do I define support?
I often ask people to support a ministry or a person in position of leadership or a person who is ministering. You may wonder what I am really asking for. Here is my answer… Support for ministry is defined by the three 'P's: Pray, Play and Pay.
Pray…include that person/ministry in your daily prayers. Ask the Lord to send the Spirit of guidance, patience and strength so that the kingdom of God may grow through the work of that person/ministry.
Play… think of our work together as a team effort or as a theatrical production. Each person has a role that they play for the good of the entire production. Your 'Play' support means that you take an active role in helping the team succeed. Specifically, it means asking that person/ministry what you can do to help them.
Pay… it’s as concrete as it sounds. Scripture says the oxen are not to be muzzled as they tread the grain and that the workers are to be paid what they deserve (1 Tim. 5:18). Even if we are experiencing a financial challenge and even if that worker may be a volunteer, we should support that ministry financially. It places importance on it and it stretches us in our faith.
Thanks again for your support! God is with us…enjoy the ride!
