BUDDY MINISTRY
We have come up with a great opportunity for our pre-kindergarten through fifth graders and our retired members. We would like to develop The Buddy Ministry between the two groups. The goal of this program is to create a safe inter-generational relationship between the two groups. Our hope is that this relationship will be rewarding for both groups.
The Buddy Ministry will meet the second Sunday of the month after church in a session similar to Following in My Footsteps. Our first time for them to get together will be Sunday, September 13, 2015. The pairs would also be together for one activity a month. We will create and arrange this activity (They can do more if they want to arrange it). This activity would be something like reading a book together or the younger buddy could bring cookies to the retired buddy and spend time together. Or maybe the buddies could bake together and share the baking. The retired buddy could share one of their hobbies with the younger buddy (i.e. sewing, woodworking, gardening, model railroading, knitting, cooking). The sky is the limit.
Buddy Ministry Change/Clarification
To those considering being a Buddy in this ministry and to those of you who will be having your children involved in this ministry:
Buddies will meet in a large group one time per month (The second Sunday of the month from 11:00- 11:45 a.m.)
For the additional contact: (one is all that is 'expected' or hoped for)....Mary & Mandi will work to provide a couple different choices that the adult and child can choose to be a part of. For instance, they will provide a set time at church where you could play a game, knit, play the piano, or read in the library or work on a special project. Or maybe they will provide a craft opportunity where the two of you can create together.
Beyond that, Mary and Mandi will work with ways the kids can keep in contact (parents can also) such as notes in the mail, pictures colored etc.
So children won't be coming into your home and there won't be one on one (solo) events that the church will be in charge of orchestrating or be responsible for. That would be totally at the discretion of the parents and the adult Buddy.
Questions: Please contact Mandi or Mary
