Pastor’s Weekly Message: “Jonah’s Folly”
Ever known someone who was dead serious about something?  Maybe it was their classic car, or their grand piano, or their collection of Brewer and Shipley albums.  Didn’t it seem weird to you that they could get more serious about that ‘thing’ then about their family?  Jonah was the kind of guy who got upset over weird things.  Or…maybe he was just a curmudgeon?
Jonah was upset with God because God wanted to show compassion on Jonah’s enemies.  Jonah was upset because God didn’t destroy his enemies.  Jonah was upset because of the heat, and then because a worm ate his shade, in fact, several times Jonah was so upset he just asked God if he could die and not have to endure another minute of this life.  Yeah…he was a curmudgeon!
But still God used him to reach thousands of people with God’s message.  In fact, Jonah was one of the most successful prophets in the Old Testament.  But Jonah felt like a failure.
So, how are you feeling about God’s work in your life?  Is God following the plan that you have laid out for him?  Or does God have some crazy idea that he knows best?  Do you feel like your work for God is a success?  Or have you read the latest survey and just want to roll over and play dead?
Take heart little flock!  God has a plan and God will see that his plan is successful.  And God’s plan is resurrection!!!  God not only knows what resurrection is…God has the power to make it happen.  And that is what God wants for you…resurrection!  Not just pie-in-the-sky someday, but real resurrection right now!  And God is inviting you, every day, to be part of his plan.  So, let’s jump in the water and see what God has in mind.
Blessings for the journey,
Pastor Mike
